IT magizine

Hi guys, Im looking for a good It magizine I can buy a subscription to. I graduated college 3 years ago and I find myself out of the loop with hardware/software
and im a gamer too :)

I wanted to hear a vote on which magizine you receive monthly, Im more of a hands on guy . So just an internet site wouldn't appeal as much to me.

I used to love boot magazine but they got bought out and became Maximum PC. It was good for a while but then their writers got ridiculous and started giving out too many high scores on reviews. It basically became a 150 page advertisement, and I lost respect for them. However, they were one of the better ones.

I was receiving PC Magazine for a while, they tend to cater more towards the business aspect of IT, while Maximum PC is pretty much all about games and gaming hardware.

Ha, sorry I totally never answered your question. To me, they are all one giant advertisement. I mean when Maximum PC gave Windows XP a perfect 10, they lost all their creditability. Plus there were so many bugs with XP before SP1, including the lack of large disk support.

My opinion is, read on line articles from anandtech, tomshardware, gaming sites, but if I had to chose a magazine I would subscribe to Wired. I like their articles and while it is not all IT tech related, their magazine is pretty tech driven.

Every other PC magazine out there is filled with advertisements and bad reviews if you want my honest opinion. That is why you should just browse their sites and not spend your hard earned money on a subscription magazine that most likely is going to give sub par advice.

i used to have computer shopper, it had great reveiws and builds. but someone said they dont make it anymore? im not sure

In Aus we have Australian Personal Computer, along with the usuals. they are all full of ads and bad reviews as tlarkin said.

I find online places the best, because people actually know what they are talking about, and there are different opinons, rather than what an editor decides to put in an article.

I would just go to the store and buy a few and see which one you like the best. I know online isn't the answer you want because its hard to setup your computer in the bathroom after burrito night, however Im sure there is a decent mag out there that has some pretty good articles if you just ignore the reviews (which seems to be the big stink about them)

I don't know if they have it in US, but over here we have a magazine called Custom PC and that is pretty good, alot of the reviews and stuff come from actual users, not the same testerds week in week out, so you get real world reviews, not lab results.

There are some ads in there, but most of it is pretty good, and also as was also said, they have the odd dodgy review, like my GPU cooler which got just over 60/100 because apparently it couldn't keep a card cool no matter how hard it tried, yet mine under load never goes above 40 degrees...go figure :P

If you do find a good magazine I would like to know. I really don't like any of them anymore as to me they are all biased reviews since the mag is getting kick backs and free stuff from these companies.

I mean, really, can you give any tech item a perfect 10 score? I haven't found a single product yet that I have not found some flaw in it. Maybe a minor non deal breaking flaw, but we don't produce perfect items.

I get it, that every now and then things deserve a 10, but I think they were just handed out too much on too many things. It kind of took away from the whole grading system.

tlarkin, I did find a good magizine. It is called CPU, I mentioned it earlier, they give you the first three months free, you do not need to give them Credit card information either, I will buy a subscription for sure!!

Hard drives for 700 dollars, they have no moving parts, makes my mouth salivate... these are some of the cool reviews they have, also this month compared ubuntu,win7, and snow leapord osx, whatever the apple one is

Computer Shopper UK is the best magazine I have read, and I even got it on subscription in the USA too.

Atomic MPC, best magazine ever. They review GPUS, CPUs, PSUs, and heaps more hardware. highly recomended gaming magazine.
