Hey everyone. First time here and I need all your opinions/advice! Thanks!

My friend is selling his ASUS Essentio Cm6870. He is selling it for about $450-500. The computer was bought for about $1000 and that was 1 year ago from today .

Specs :

The only difference is that the graphics card is the GeoForce GT 630

So i was wondering if it would be worth it to buy his computer and upgrade the graphics card and possibly the power supply? Im not sure (new to this)

Or

Should i just build a new pc

Thanks guys/gals

You need to be careful. CPU/RAM/HDD is strong, but the GPU and possibly PSU are bad.
I work with a lot of OEM machines, and most likely the PSU is just about powerful enough to run the stock components.
I would definitely check the power supply and see the wattage and efficiency rating before you buy it.
The PSU is not always standard size too, you need to watch out for that if you intend to upgrade it.

What would be your final budget?
$500 + ~$250 for GPU+PSU?
For $700-900 you could build a better system.

Ok thanks for your advice. My budget is around your guess. But i dont even know where to begin :/

Don't worry, you'll get a lot of help here :)
Do you need a monitor, mouse, speakers and/or keyboard?
I assume you don't have a copy of Windows 7 or 8 lying around, so you'll need an operating system as well - unless you have other means of getting it. I got a volume license for free from a university once, as an example.

Initial sketch (at work, going home in a second and then I have to build a PC for a friend, so I'm doing this fast :D)
AMD FX-6300
Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3
Kingston/Corsair/other quality brand 2x4GB 1600/1866MHz
Quality 600W PSU
R9 270X/GTX 760
1TB HDD/SSHD - doubt you can afford SSD + HDD at this budget.
A case you like

You could build a new PC for a bit cheaper, but it certainly isn't a bad deal. As Jiniix said, the CPU, memory, etc, are totally fine, but the GPU and PSU are old (I'm assuming it's around a 450W)

If you don't think you're up to building your own, you could buy an R9 270x and you'd have a pretty decent gaming rig.

We just need the PSU and GPU measurements for your case.
