Is this illegal?

If this is illegal, just say and close it, but I want to know...

Is it illegal to get a product driver for a piece of hardware like a webcam, and modify the code inside to make it compatible with something else. I know it will work as people have done it before. I want to make an Eyetoy Namtai Camera for PS2 to work with Windows XP... you may remember it as this:

IF you are asking if it is illegal to mod it to work in XP, no it is not. Nvidia has a tool to mod drivers and such to make them work in older OSes (only works if your device has a newer driver :( ). Maybe you need something of the sort. It may work native if you can plug it in (not sure if USB, or some proprietary hook up).

Well, I doubt Windows would approve of it.
But to be fair, it's not like Windows will be making any form of loss from this :D

Cheers guys. Windows recognises the Eyetoy, but it doesn't have a driver for it...it even says EYETOY NAMTAI. But cheers for the reassurance. I didn't want to do it if it was illegal. Cheers guys!
