Is there anyway i can tell how much data has passed trough my modem/router?

I have a linksys wag354 v2 that supports snmp .
Please keep in mind that iam a complete newbie in networking and snmp . I just want some piece of software or a configuration that allows me to see how much data has passed trough my modem/router ? I also want to be able to view these stats remotly (from a laptop /cell phone )
 
there are loads of bandwidth monitors available
As for the texting your mobile, that is harder, your need some sort of sms gateway, you could script a program to interface with the many free sms apps online. But then your a newbee so that will be hard. Not sure if any of the online monitors offer that service
 
enable remote log in (ssh connections) on your router, get an ssh client like putty.exe and then view logs from your router once in the router?
