I just want to get some feedback on a new laptop im thinking about buying. Its a Toshiba Satellite P755-S5198 Laptop. the specs are fine for my intended use. I want to find out if its a lemon or cheap build quality etc. Here are the basic specs:

Intel Core i7-2670QM processor
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit), SP1
6GB DDR3 1333MHz memory
15.6" widescreen HD TruBrite LED Backlit display
Graphics Engine: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M with NVIDIA Optimus Technology
1GB GDDR3 discrete graphics memory
750GB HDD (5400rpm, Serial ATA)

Generally Toshiba is one of the recommended brands around here. They are pretty good build quality. I would take the HDD and check the brand when you get it though. Toshiba hard drives are not the best quality. If it has a Toshiba HDD, drop it out and get a seagate or western digital and you will have a great system.

I had a P-100 years ago and it was a very solid machine. I cant speak for their entire, current lineup but I wouldn't tell somebody to avoid Toshiba as my experiences were satisfactory.

Toshiba's have gone downhill in my opinion. I'd still recommend them, but not nearly as highly as some other brands. The two things we see fail in them all the time would be their hard drives and broken power jacks. The power jack simply requires you to be more careful while using it plugged in. As for the hard drive, I'd suggest avoiding ones with Toshiba or Hitachi branded drives. Those quibbles aside, you should be fine.

thanks guys for the input, but im gonna pass on the toshiba because i HAVE FOUND my new laptop.

The Toshiba is not a good option because it's 15.6" display has a resolution of 1366x768. 15.6" displays that have 1366x768 resolution limit multitasking and productivity by making things onscreen large, and they tend to have terrible image quality because of low contrast.

The XPS 15 is a decent option though, but you might want to tone down your configuration a bit.
- There isn't a terribly significant difference between the GT 525M and the GT 540M, and for the difference that is there, $100 is too much for an upgrade charge IMO.
- Don't prioritize a Core i7 processor unless you need one. If gaming is your only performance-intensive requirement, the GPU is the primary bottleneck.

Apply coupon code 932N$0ZCCHWZB9 to your final configuration to remove $100 from the price.

If you want far more game performance, consider the Sager NP9130: http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np9130-clevo-p151em1-p-4340.html?wconfigure=yes
- Scroll down to Operating System and select Windows.
