Is Pci- Express x1 Compatible with Pci-e x4?

I bought a new gig ethernet card, thinking I had a x1 slot, unfortunately I have a x4....would it be compatible?

Yeah, it's suppose to be... But unfortunetly, I've never tried it myself. Only 16x video cards

It is...works great, thanks. I used a x1 in a x4, and its also compatible in x16

It would fit, but it isn't designed for that.

I'm quite sure it's like 8bit and 16bit ISA

pci express should be backgrounds compatible, so the X1 cards should be able to work in all PCI-express slots.

I mean a PCI-E x16 slot wasn't designed with networking cards in mind.

it wont matter, x4,x8,x16 were all made with x2,x1 in mind
