Is optical plug in headphone jack 5 channel

Hey guys. :D I have a 5.1 speaker system and I bought a toslink optical cable to plug from my computer, via an adapter into the headphone jack, to my amplifier. I was wondering even though optical supports 5.1 transfer, does this apply while using the headphone adapter via the headphone 2.1 channel slot.

Is it 5.1 or 2.1? Thanks guys.:)
 
Then no it's not 5.1. Headphone jack only outputs stereo so the optical cable would be carrying stereo. Your receiver might be able to mix it into 5.1, though it wouldn't be true surround sound.
