Ipod classic Hardrive Swap

I ahve an ipod Classic 30 Gb.. its the 5th gen of the classics.

I was wondering if i could swap the 30 gb hardrive on the ipod with 160 gb hd from an another ipod?

is it possible?

lol...no seriously...i think its a possibility dont you think..as long as its the same gen?
 
Anything is possible, it's just a matter of how much effort you're willing to put into it. :D

I'd assume so, it's just a HD.
 
well lets say instead of the 160 its a 80 gb. i know that the 5th gen had both 30 and 80
 
as long as they are from the same generation. the newer ones have different ide pinouts then the older ones

you'll probably have to swap the drive, then flash the firmware from the 160gb version to the 30gb ipod

be careful popping that ipod open, the halves are held together using glue AND plastic clips. the glue is the easy part, keeping the plastic clips intact is the hard part. be sure to use a tiny flathead to push them in as you pop them apart. dont fret on the glue, it still sticks back together pretty well when you piece it back
