iPhone 5c Proximity Sensor not working

Wife has an iPhone 5c that was dropped and the screen broke. For her birthday I bought the parts and performed the fix. I don't want to give her a half assed birthday gift so here's the issue:

Bought a LCD/Digitizer that included all the parts installed for easy swap and the price was right.

Replaced broken unit, found that Siri, front camera video, and dictation could not hear us. Opened phone and reseated the flex, turned back on and thankfully everything worked... or so I thought.

The proximity sensor is not working at all. I cover the speaker with my thumb with Siri up or while making a call. The screen should go black but it does nothing. Putting it to your face while talking on the phone, the screen stays lit the entire time.

Can we get on without the sensor? It seems kind of minor considering everything else is working.

The LCD/Digitizer I purchased had all the parts (home button, speaker, bracket, camera, sensor) intact. How would you troubleshoot and in what order would you try different fixes?

I can pull the camera/sensor flex from the original screen and replace the one that came on the replacement screen but I wonder if there are some things I could try first that I may not be thinking of... or should I just leave well enough alone?

Not to beat a dead horse but

Disassembled the phone to check on the replacement proximity sensor housing. It was glued to the new proximity sensor. I tried my best to reseat it in the obvious slot making sure it pushed forward enough to be almost touching the glass/filter thing. Phone came up with Siri not hearing me again and still no proximity awareness. Reseated the flex connector. Siri could hear me but I was still without proximity functionality.

Swapped the replacement camera/sensor flex for the old one on the broken screen. Plugged everything back in and everything worked like a charm. I had to pull the sensor housing out of the shattered unit and it was tough because it was glued in there. I kept tugging on the part with metallic tweezers trying to work it back and forth to break the bond. Eventually the piece came out with the glue still attached to it. It had the perfect shape to fit in to the replacement screen. The glue helped it fit in snug so no tape or glue was needed. Seated the camera and mic back into their tiny housings and connected everything. Wah lah everything worked!! So pleased :cool:
