Internet won't work when plugged into router

My internet works just fine when I plug the modem directly into the computer. But when I plug the modem into the router, and the router into the computer, my internet just doesn't work. I have a $40 Belkin I got at Walmart, but that really shouldn't matter. The Power button, and Device 1 button remain solid, but the Internet light flickers. Anyone have any ideas?

go into your router options and find the mac tab and click "clone computer's mac address", my internet at home wouldn't work till I did this cause Earthlink wanted to charge $9 a month to provide cable to multiple computers, and I guess they were smart enough to block mac's from common routers.

umm, yeah I know, I'm talking about a mac address, it's a unique number burned onto the chip of whatever connects to the internet on your computer, it stands for Media Access Control. It has nothing to do with Apple, but they have MAC addresses on all their stuff too but anyways. Your router has a different MAC address than your computer, theoretically everything has a different MAC address, though that's not always true, but anyways, half of it is unique to your piece of whatever and the other half is unique to the manufacturer of the component. What I am saying, I'll go slow, is open your browser, type in 192.168.2.1, click on the thing on the left side that says something about MAC, then click on "clone computer's mac address." Try that and see if that helps.

haha well I feel like a dork.. thanks a lot for your help, everything is up and running now.. time to jump on xbox live! thanks again

ramachandran, don't ask questions in someone else's post.

try unplugging everything for like 30 seconds and then pluggin it all back in. sometimes things just need to be reset.
