Internet Slow-down

Hi,
If I network a laptop and desktop and share the internet connection between them...How much will it slow down?

That will depend on how you are connecting both. Are you on dsl or cable? If you are connecting through a router both being on one line will have a tendency to pull down the bandwidth slightly. If one is being used for downloading a large file that will be more noticable. But if your connections are discreet each on a separate port you shouldn't see any large drop.

I have Dial-up. I do not know how they will be connected as I don't have my laptop yet but just wanted to know what it'd be like...

Thanks,

I'd imagine pretty slow, since dial-up iteself is not fast at all, so 2 computers will make it even worse.

Unless you are using both at the same time, it shouldn't be any slower than the normal very slowness.

The method for connecting two pcs onto one line is to either have one going through the other(host with modem) or networking them together for shared access. With both logged on you would see a drop in the bandwidth. The article at the link here gives some good details on how to setup with two or more systems with a portable dial-up router. http://www.smallbusinesscomputing.com/webmaster/article.php/3482466
