Is there a program that will let me send an instant message from my computer to another computer at the other end of the house through the network without having to install a web based instant messenger?

For win 98 me and i think win2k you need to open winpopup from the run menu.. just type it in... Then the messages just go in there... If you go to download.com you can usually find a program that has a nice gui interface.

I use netmeeting a lot, but for me it is the height of laziness, as the computer i use it with is the opposite side of the wall :D, adn it is free and included with windows. Plus has a lot more features like webcam, mic, remote assis

do they still have winpopup in windows xp?

edit: just tried it... obviously not.... sorry for that crappy post lol

Go to start/run/write "net send machine name message''.
in place of "machine name" write the machine name to whom you want to send message and in place of "message" simply write the message you like. perhaps your problem will be easily solved
