Installing new RAM?

If I was to install a new stick of RAM in my friends computer, and he has two 512Mb sticks and one 1Gb stick of RAM, could I just put another 1Gb stick and it will just work? Is there anything else I will have to do post installation or will it just work fine?

Just be sure it's the same speed as the other 1GB stick. Otherwise you'll be fine.
