I just bought a Sound-Blaster X-Fi Extreme sound card and am having some trouble installing it. Once I put it in the PCI slot, Windows automatically recognized that it was there because it prompted me with an "Install New Hardware" message. The first time I ignored that and installed from the CD like the box recommends. After the drivers are installed and updated, there is no sound and "Sound and Audio Devices" from the Control Panel says that it detects no Audio device. The sound card shows up in the device manager, but even after I had installed the drivers from the CD it says no drivers are installed. After this didn't work, I system restored the computer to start again. This time, I followed the "Install New Hardware" prompt windows gives and after it tries to read the CD, it gives a message:
Cannot Start Hardware
There was a problem installing the hardware:
Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Audio
The drivers for the device are not installed (Code 28)
Any ideas what I am doing wrong and how I can remedy the situation?
