So 2 friends and i are planning on hosting some lanparties for about 20 local players. I have no knowledge of the networking market so does anybody have any recommendations for switches or whatever i need in order to connect about 20 PCs together?

thanks

Other than to get at the least a 10/100 switch (brand doesnt make an earth shattering difference here as gaming isnt that bandwdith intensive). Just the a single 20/24 port switch or a whole bunch of smaller ones and some cabling :)

Can you connect like for example 2 switches with 10 ports together?

And also, 10/100 is that the capacity or what? Do they come in different port numbers like 10, 14, 16 . 18 etc?

Dudder, :o

Some switches are very smart and they can auto detect if it needs to be a cross over or not. Buttt some switches are retarded and you need to have an eithernet cross-over to connect the two switches.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you just plug the cable into the LAN port of the upstream router and into the WAN port (uplink port) of the downstream router? This would allow for a single crossover, not the double crossover a LAN-LAN connection would give.
