Im looking for a decent camera

Well I had a Nikon D40 for like 2+ years and it quite working on me about a month or more ago. I picked up a $60 camera at wal-mart to hold me over for a little while and I just can't take it no more. I went camping over the weekend and took some pics, they would have been awesome if it wasn't for my camera, here are some of them http://img3.imageshack.us/g/sdc10459j.jpg/. I don't want to spend much and I probably want get one to around Christmas time since I will probably find a good deal around then.

This is the one I have been looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830122200. I'm not to big on the brand but it has decent comments(of course I don't take reviews to seriously). I just want to know what models I should look at for when I'm ready to buy in a month or two. My price range is around $200 I would get a DSLR but I'm an amateur and they are more then I'm willing to spend on a new hobby. I guess my best bet is a SLR.

If you're serious about making it a serious hobby lol, I guess an SLR would help. But if you're just trying to give it a chance, then that looks like a good choice. Fujifilm make nice cameras.

If it's any help, someone told me today that Canon and Fuji are the market leaders in digital cameras. I'm looking for a new digital camera myself, the link you provided for the Fuji camera looks very good value.

Im pretty sure nikon and canon are the market leaders.
You might be better off just fixing the d40. I doubt a 200 dollar camera will be able to outperform it.

That camera is under the section on newegg that is labeled SLR-like:confused:. I guess that means it is close to and SLR but not as good. It really made me mad to see my pics turn out like they did:mad:. I'm almost sure anything would be better then what I have.

I'm not trying to find something as good as the D40. I just got in to photography only a week or two ago:). I don't have the D40 anymore I sold it on craigs list for $150:good:. The guy that bought it said he could fix it. He called me back a couple of days ago and said he was actually going to loose money on the camera after fixing and selling it:eek:, I don't think that is good. He wanted to know if he could get a refund for the camera. I told him no, I said you bought the camera knowing the risk now you got to deal with it:P and that was that.

Like I said for now I just want to be able to take a decent photo. I don't need a $400 camera. I could easily buy a $1000 camera I have plenty of money, but I'm not going to spend a whole lot of money on something that I might lose interest in.

Oh btw can somebody give me a good site for cameras newegg doesn't have a whole lot to choose from.

It's an SLR-Like, meaning it has unlocked settings and controls that you usually could not find in a regular P&S. It also has considerably more zoom than a P&S. But it does not function like an SLR as far as how the picture is recorded in the sensor.

In other words, as far as control over the pictures, it's close to an SLR but it has the image quality of a P&S.

BTW, a change of camera alone is not going to improve your pictures, like you claim.

Alright that helped me out a lot now I know the difference.

Do you think it would be worth the extra to get the SLR. I could probably find one for what $250 maybe.

You can find awesome deals for lightly used / refurbished bodies at Amazon for around $300 (Nikon D40 / D60 or Pentax K100D / K100D Super)

Lenses are cheap, kit lenses can go as low as $50

I guess I'm just going to go with the one I posted. Hopefully around Christmas time there will be some good deals on something better. I might bump my budget up to $300-$400 and grab me a DSLR. I rather not get something used because every time I do it doesn't go to well for me.

I appreciate the help guys
