I'm bored of my computers

OK, so I have been working on Computers since 1982. Been on the 'Net long before the WWW was launched. I am retired but have been doing a lot of work on a FB Group, Website and Forum for our military organization. I have four really nice computers, a desktop build I recently completed and three quad core laptops, All connected to my wireless network. Realized last week I am getting really bored with computers and the Web in general. I need a picker upper. So, help me out here.

I have done about all the upgrades on my desktop I can think of. I check for "Cool" add on hardware and pretty much have that covered, only so much you can do. Yea, I've got the clear case and the multi colored internal monitor display and all that. So what else is there to add?

Websites. Click on cool websites and all the links take you to the same old things I have been looking at for years, just updated. What are some really really good websites? How about some video that would take advantage of my 3D rendering capabilities? Not interested in productivity as I have that covered.

Not interested in Tablets, got an iPad2 that I dont even know where it is, never gets used and a Kindle Touch that needs charging.

Done used about every piece of benchmarking software out there, like looking at the stats but now they are all pretty much the same. Any software that "Digs Deep" and is free? Not talking about something like Belarc Advisor but something that goes even deeper.

Offered my services for free on Craigslist, training for people over 60, upgrades, installs and re-installs, etc. My credentials are pretty solid along those lines, started out with Unix in 82 on Army UCOFT and SIMNET, owned two Computer Businesses doing builds, upgrades and training, former Broadband Manager and Broadband Engineer for Comcast designing headends, plant and managing a 20 man team of computer techs. Subcontractor for Dell warranty services for Desktops and Laptops, bunch of certs. Not one taker for free services, dont know how those guys on there who charge make any money.

Dont care for Gaming except for Flight Sim's, currently playing MS Flight Sim 2010. No interest in War Games, served as an Army Tanker for 23 years, been there and done that for real, games dont interest me.

I'm in a rut, help me out.

You pretty much said it yourself, you're in a rut. I would say to just take an extended break from computers (unless you're job requires it) and find whatever else interests you. What else do you do in your spare time? Fishing, bike riding, hiking, photography, etc?

I was in a rut like that and bored. Got a 4G Android cell phone from my kids. It is a computer.
Example. Figure it out again. Some neat apps for it and don't need a computer. But I figured out how to access the computer at home from your house and even turned it on.
Then turn it off. Its related to lights out management and your computer bios has to support it. The 4G is a toy. $35.00 a month.
Good luck.

Another note the software is not free. Did it before from computer to computer and turn off and on with access.
Have to buy it. I bought a slingbox instead. Do i need it no. Another toy to figure out. Again........

Tanker, I'm sorry to hear you're in a rut, but I can't help but envy the knowledge you have - I'd love to have that kind of information in my head. In a sense, you're a lucky man because of it. Personally, for me, I like a challenge. That's the kind of stuff that inspires me. If I were you, I'd shoot for the stars. What have you always dreamed of doing, that you thought was a little bit impossible (or crazy). Stretch yourself. It may be in computers; it may be in some other totally unrelated field. At any rate, a challenge gets my adrenaline pumping (and as a former LE officer I'm a bit of an adrenaline junkie). By the way, I appreciate your service to this country. That kind of stuff can't be overrated.

Kind of in the same situation as you (Not all the cool toys part, just the 'rut' part, so feel free to ship a computer my way :P ). Feel like there's more that I could do with what I have. So I'm downgrading my computer and going to make a HTPC and have friends/family over more. Use my 'toys' to entertain people. Also I took up photography awhile back to utilize my computer more as a tool than a source of entertainment.
