If i buy the Logitech X530.....

will it work with my motherboard or will i need to buy a new soundcard?

X-530 Speakers: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16836121118

and also would the sound quality be very different if i just went onboard, or would a soundcard actually improve the quality?

maybe recommend a soundcard if i need to get one :D
Your motherboard does support 6 channel audio, however, it wouldn't be nearly as good as a sound card. Just about any card from Creative Labs is great. In the $30 range, there is the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live!, and then nearer $60 there is a low end Creative labs X-Fi card, which would be about the best deal.

Roughly:
Live<Audigy 2~Audigy 4<X-Fi
However, there is some overlap. For instance, even a midrange Audigy 2 will beat a low end Audigy 4.

Then how come there are only 3 audio ports?

In many integrated audio ports, the other ports can double as audio out, which gives you 3x2, or 6 channels. If you look on the specs, it says 6 channel.

I didn't not believe you, it just seems rather pointless to have 6 channel audio but only 3 ports.

I've got that same board and yes it does support 6 channel audio in the control panel of the drivers u can change the output of the jacks, but it doesn't sound nearly as good as a soundcard would. I have an old cheap live! series card and it sounds 100 times better so you would be much better off going with an Audigy or Live card.

so one of those would work? i dont really have a budget but i dont want to spend all that much either so maybe anything like $60 and down

EDIT: i found a creative sound blaster card for $50, does it look any good? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829102011
