IE-9 extremely slow

My IE-9 has been slowing down loading a web page, now it has finally stopped all together. Chrome is great & loads like "right now". I have done the usual deleting of temp files, defraging, cookies, etc...no improvement. I have even done a recovery going back a week or so. Any ideas besides just using "chrome" ? I haven't loaded any new or large apps recently. No other "tabs" open.

Generally IE is slower than other browsers. Not sure why. But it is. Remove any addons or toolbars that you have. That might help. Otherwise I'd switch to Chrome or Firefox. Chrome being my preference as it's a bit quicker too me.

Just use Chrome. Sorry, but other than removing addons, you're just not going to be able to improve IE's speed. You'll be much better off on Chrome anyway.

Thanks for the replies . Here is something I don't understand...My wife has the same Dell 531, etc that I have & we use the same wireless gateway. she has a lot more "social apps" running then I do & her PC using IE-9 runs circles around mine . One of those "little mysteries of life" I guess.

Most likely its your browser addon's. And contrary to some users comments, My IE 8 is faster than firefox.

Have you scanned your system for malware? You can reset IE9 totally by going into internet options, advanced tab and click on both reset buttons. This will remove all browser addons and reset all settings.

John..I constantly scan my computer using AVG & Super Antispy. They find lots of tracking cookies & that's about it.
I was not aware of being able to "reset" IE-9. I'll give it a try. I'f that doesn't fix IE-9, I think I'll just use "good ol chrome".
Thanks for all your replys

I did a "reset" on IE-9, restarted my computer, clicked on the IE icon & waited a good 15 minutes for it to load my home page. That is one sick puppy ! I'm open for more ideas... Chrome is sure looking better all the time.

update slow IE-9... uninstalled IE-9 & now running IE-8, I have still have the same problem...20 minutes & my home page still isn't loaded. I give up on IE !

Its a shame about Firefox, it used to be decent but just got slower and buggier with each update :(

I dont have a problem with it. Its not quite as fast as Chrome was, but its by no means slow on my connection. I had to switch from Chrome because Chrome was causing me a ton of problems.

Everything's better than firefox. I hate firefox with a passion.

Poster, A reinstalling should fix the problem. Ie9 is a pretty awesome browser. Try not to install any doubtful addon.

If the OP has a 64 bit version of Vista, Firefox Nightly would be an option.
http://nightly.mozilla.org/

And Firefox has worked with no problems and has been just as fast as any other browser for the past 5 years. I love it.

For example, it does extremely well with the Acid3 test: http://acid3.acidtests.org/

You're seriously suggesting he use unstable beta software? Wow. I've got Nightly installed and like the stable release, it's pretty slow and tends to hang a lot more frequently.

His best bet is Chrome.

I'm seriously suggesting that, as it works fine for me. It's up to him to decide what works the best on his machine, though. And my machine isn't really that fancy or fast, either. Firefox just works on it.

And, while Chrome may be faster, I personally just don't like its layout and look. Sometimes it comes down to looks and functionality, not speed.

In other words you like ugliness. I see. Check out the next iteration of ugliness:
