I want to edit footage without having to change file size

Hello.

I am having a problem with Windows Movie Maker, and I may need to find another freeware.

I have VHS footage recorded onto my computer. Each file size is quite large, with 10-15 minutes being about 300 MB.

No matter how many minutes of footage (1min to 3min) I edit out, WMM will only let me save the file up to 82 MB. Now this is great for file storage, but I just want it at the same I had it before. If I edit out a minute from a 10 minute film, I dont want it to go from 300 to 82, i just want it to go from 300 to lets say around 270..... I don't like trading clear footage for file space.

Anyone have any suggestions or know of any program where I can just take out small amounts of footage without having to resave the entire file as something smaller?

Movie Maker is crap....

Use Virtual Dub and a DivX codec to compress

The Mac commercials have all rights to make fun of WMM....
