I need Help

Hi,

First off I have a older Toshiba Satellite Pro 4200 series. The computer was getting really slow and the virtual memory was basically full because I would always get warnings about it. So what I did was re install the Windows XP and now I can't get my 2wire Internet card to work. I believe that your suppose to install it with a CD which I tried with one of the CD's I have thinking that it was that but it hasn't worked.

Then I did a search for 2wire driver downloads and I came up to this site.

http://support.2wire.com/index.php?p...ew&article=771
(I hope its ok to post other links)

When I clicked on the 32 bit driver hyperlink than I saved the file onto my flash drive and than extracted the files on my laptop but than I didn't know what to do after that.

I have no clue if that's even what I'm suppose to do. The number number for my 2wire card is 1000-1000016-002.

If you need anymore information let me know. I figured this forum could help me through my problem. I'm getting frustrated because I don't know what I'm doing. Thanks in advance for any help.

Go to Start, right click on My Computer, select Properties, go to the Hardware tab, in there click Device Manager, then find your wireless card (as it has no driver it will have a yellow question mark next to it), right click it, select Properties, go to Driver, click Update Driver, say No to "update through Windows Update", and then specify where you extracted the files to, click Next, it will install your drivers.

I have a problem when I start up the computer it says "This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on. Do you want to activate Windows now? Yes or No ". I can't it because I can get online yet. I don't know what to do now.

I've never did that before but it looks like that's the only way to do it. I'm guessing you talk to them and tell them your activation code.

You talk some robot and you type in the activation number on the screen into your phone, and it reads you a number back which you type in, and then it activates. You can just speak to a human though if you prefer that.

Thanks. I activated that now I appreciate the help. Now when I do what you said with the driver I have a CD that says "2wire Gateway Install CD" can I use this or should I use the fiels that I got from the link.

The files in the folder are

bcm43xx security catalog
bcmwl5 setup information
bcmwl5 system file

Go to Start, right click on My Computer, select Properties, go to the Hardware tab, in there click Device Manager, then find your wireless card (as it has no driver it will have a yellow question mark next to it), right click it, select Properties, go to Driver, click Update Driver I got this far and than it says "Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard"
so than it says What do you want the wizard to do ? I clicked install from a list or specific location and click next

than it has options

Search for the best driver in these locations
-Search removable media
--or
- include this location in the search
or

Don't search. I will choose the driver to install

I put the 3 files on the laptops desktop.

Use the driver you downloaded as it's the newest, and select "include this location in the search" and browse to the folder where you extracted the driver files to, in this casr the laptop's desktop.

It doesn't work I used the file from the link here
http://support.2wire.com/index.php?page=view&article=771

I used the XP 32 bit driver

I did what I said before and when it says Include this location in the search I clicked browse and clicked the path Desktop\2Wire_wireless_PCI_XP32\2Wire_XP32PCICBdriver_In_Autorun_v3.0 clicked OK then hit next

But than it says

The wizard could not find the software on your computer for

Maybe I don't have the right driver for my 2wire?

2Wire Wireless_PC_Card
If is recommended that your connect to the Internet so that the wizard can search online and look for the appropriate software.

Inside 2Wire_XP32PCICBdriver_In_Autorun_v3.0 folder are these files:

bcm43xx security catalog
bcmwl5 setup information
bcmwl5 system file

This is what was happening to me before and I don't get what to do or why its not working?

you say you've got a CD? try that and see if that works? are you downloading the correct drivers?

I tried the one CD its called 2Wire Gateway Install CD but it doesn't do anything. It still wants to check the internet for software.

That's what I'm wondering to if I have the right driver or not?

Don't think you do - is this a PCMCIA card? Take it out, see if you can see a model no. on it, then download the drivers and try again. Seems odd that the driver isn't an exe file that you just run to install the driver.

Ok I found a different driver and the process worked. Now what do I have to do? I clicked Internet Explorer and The page cannot be displayed.

Well have you connected to a wireless network? You need to do that before it will work.

First you Go to My Computer, select the Properties, than go in Hardware tab, click on Device Manager, then find it and do right click on it, select Properties then go to Driver click on it and than see it will install your drivers.

Have you read this thread? That's the first thing I told the guy to do. :/ It didn't work.
