The one thing with computers that I've never dealt with is networking. I know about NICs, CAT5e/6 cables and their general function, but that's about it...
Coming up soon here I'm going to have about 2 weeks to fully devote to video games, and I want to set up a connection between 2 computers. They both have onboard Ethernet, same speed (10/100 I believe), and they're both decent machines (a bit dated, but they still run all the new stuff without TOO much trouble....on low settings *cries*).
What I want to know is if there's a way to just directly connect them, or if I will need a router. I already know which one would be host/admin, but I need to know how I would go about setting it up. Is there any software that would help? Would I need to get special ethernet cables for a direct connect? If a router would be necessary, what should I look for in a router?
Any help at all would be immensely appreciated. Thanks.
