I have a RAM question

I've recently purchase two sticks of RAM (1GB each) after popping them in my system shows I only have 1.87GB of RAM.

Also when I took out the existing Ram (512) stick it was only showing just under 500mb of RAM more like 480mb something like that.

So is their an explanation why my system is showing less RAM?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Simple, your probably have an integrated video card that shares from system memory.

So your saying with two 1gb sticks and a 512mb. stick (total of 2.5gb.) it only showed 1.87gb.

When you took the 512 out with 2gb. left in, the total memory dropped to 480mb.

If so something is weird. Have you tried the 1gb. sticks one at a time by theirself? What motherboard is this and what kind of memory?
