HP's E-Print

Has anyone seen HP's recent commercials with their new E-Print technology? If not, basically it allows you to print to your web-connected printer from anywhere in the world, and it shows how people and companies love this technology. Now what I don't get, is why would someone want to print directly to their printer without knowing who will see it or take it, or if the person they were intending it to go to even gets it? If they want someone to have a document, why not just E-Mail it to them and have them print it out? If you have one at home and want to print pictures, why not just wait until you are home to print it? Am I the only one who doesn't understand why someone would even want this technology?

I totally agree with you for the most part but you have to remember, its more based toward businesses. For like when coworkers are gone or on vacation and they need to send something to the office that they may have forgotten to print or something.

Seems like an innovative advancement. It's like electronic faxing from anywhere, even from your phone. Pretty cool.

Even in a business, if someone forgets to print something that document must be intended for a specific person. Instead of printing it directly from your computer miles away, would there really be much difference in just e-mailing it to the person you want to get it to? What if the printer is off when you send it? What if it's a shared printer among several co-workers and someone else grabs it, then your boss asks you why you never gave it to him and you say "I printed it 2 hours ago".

It's a neat feature, but I think HP is making it sound greater then it really is. Another note, usually when you print something you are near the printer so you know if someone is in the middle of using it or not, I can see someone printing out several documents and then have some random thing print in the middle of his job.

It may look useless, and it's not very innovative. But I'm sure there will be a group of people who will make good use of it.

I wonder if there is any security in place, or if anyone can print to your printer by sending something to the printers E-Mail address...
