I am trying to scan a picture from my HP3140 all-in-one to my computer. I use the button on the scanner and I get Error occured while communicating with the scanner. Check connections, and I did, all was hooked up right. Went to HP site and didn't do any good. Need help. I have the vista program. Thanks.
 
you say you have vista.. first find out what you have 32bit or 64bit.. then make shure you have the correct driver. if not go the the home site and get the correct driver
 
I have a HP all in one myself albeit a different model and HP drivers are crap. I have downloaded the basic drivers only and use my OS or Photoshop for the scanning control.
A lot of software have twain compliant control built into them and is a lot better than the manufacturers.
I'm not saying this is your problem but try scanning from a software program to see if it will do it, if so then your HP drivers are bad.
