i have an old computer, it was running on P4 when it died. im planning to replace the following, please help me see if it's gona work.
MB: Asus P5KPL/1600
CPU: C2D E7400
RAM: DDR2-800 Corsair (2x1gb)

because the computer is old, it's drives are all IDE. i would like to know if that would work well with the new components. I have a hard disk and 2 disc drives, all IDE. also, because this com is mainly for my mom's office work and sometimes my bro would wana play some light game on it, would reusing my old AGP card be okay? if not, can you suggest a basic card? and i have a 500w PSU.

Well bunny man I will say this.

If its a 8mb IDE you will be fine if its a 2/4mb you will notice a HUGE difference with a 16mb cache one. (trust me I was on a 2mb)

For what you will pay for 2x1GB sticks you can buy these.

4-4-4-12 and 4GB = hmmmmm

Also unless the motherboard has 2 IDE which is rare for a dual-core board anymore you will need to a SATA HDD or SATA drive. I would suggest the HDD since it will be a performance increase and roughly the same price.

Something like this is nice...cheap and a lot of space + 16mb cache. Getting a 8mb cache and 120GB is only 10 bucks less so its worth while imo.

here's what it says on the website for the motherboard
* Intel LGA775 Platform
* Intel G31/ICH7 Chipset
* FSB 1600(O.C.)/1333/1066/800
* DDR2 1066(O.C.)/800/667
* 2 PCI Express x16 slots, support CFX
* 4x SATA 3Gb/s
* V1708B 8-CH HD audio
* AI Net2, Mylogo2, EZ Flash2 & Crashfree BIOS3

so i dont suppose there is IDE connection? and i will consider the 4gb option, if the difference isnt so much. mainly because i use this machine (my new machine) for gaming and it doesnt use up the 2gb that i have except for really intensive games (gta 4, crysis...etc)

Well

You can see on the side of the board there is 1 IDE (next to the 24 pin) and 1 Floppy connection. They don't usually point out a IDE since its not a big selling point for most since every board has one.

Also with the no-mem restrict GTA4 CAN use all the ram for increased performance.

Also more games are starting to use more ram so why buy 2GB of ram when you can get 4GB for the same price. Also if you only have 2GB of memory your OS wont allow all of it to be used...it keeps some for itself.

When I game with Vista I see around 2.5GB used. Vista takes about 500mb though :)

I want to know if the new MB can fit in it. the old case comes with a 500W PSU. there would be no problem with the connection right? i mean can i connect the new MB to the PSU fine? Also, can i reuse my AGP card as the main graphic card? I think it's a FX5600. thanks :)
