Heres the senario:
Downstairs PC conected to the Net.
Looking conect the computer in my bedroom to the Internet conection downstairs.

Ive conected it to the PC, installed the software for the Base aswel. Its got a Fiar/Average signal but i cant access the Internet. Even when i use other (un-restricted) connections. Why is that? Can someone help me out please.

Let me get this straight, your trying to connect your bedroom computer to the downstairs computer which is connected to the internet. NOT trying to connect both bedroom and downstairs to the internet?

Example: Are you trying to connect using number 1 or 2?

1.
Code:
Bedroom---->Downstairs---->internet
2.
Code:
Bedroom-----|
            |--->internet
Downstairs--|

How are you going about doing it? What internet serves provider do you have? Wireless or wired? You using modems, routers, switches, or hubs?

My ISP is Telewest (Blueyonder) and i'm using a wired broadband modem.

The downstairs computer is located next to the modem, so its already conected to the net. thats no problem.. but how do i go about conecting the bedroom/upstairs computer to the same modem?

Thanks..

Ahh, this will be easy. Measure how long it is from the computer in the bedroom down to the computer downstairs. Make sure you do it however you want, such as if you choose to run it along walls or through them, just get a distance. Doesnt have to be exact.

Buy either cat5 or cat6 (NOT cat5E) ethernet cable of that length. its about a dollar every 10 feet (youll see it gets cheaper the more feet you buy). A good place would be from Newegg. (make sure it has the connector ends already crimped on it)

Then depending on your modem, you should just be able to connect it to the modem and the other end of the cable to the computer. If your modem doesnt have place for two ethernet cables to plug in (the one you already have for the downstairs computer and the new one you will need to connect the upstairs computer) you will need a router/switch/hub of some kind. I would suggest something reliable like this. You will need to buy a second (short) ethernet cable to plug the modem into the router then you just plug your two computers into the router. Windows should automatically set up a network and get the internet to both machines.

EDIT: This is assuming the bedroom computer doesnt have wireless....

When you say that you got a Fair/Average signal, I assume that you are on wireless? Correct? If you are on wireless check to make sure your wireless cards doesn't have the tcp/ip settings set, but set to automatic. Additionally, check that your modem/router is allowing wireless SSID broadcast and also has the DHCP set to automatic detect also.

Yes it is wireless. I dont actually have a wireless card, its a USB reciver.
Also in order to work the settings i would have to enter a website via a shortcut/link on my desktop. but how can it be accessed upstairs if ive got no internet connection? even when i try to run the link downstairs i get a conection error. (The connection has timed out)

is ur pc upstairs, set to use the wireless as the default internet connection, what brnd wireless router are u using, and what brand usb adapter

You don't need to do it on that computer. Do it on the one that works. Then just make sure the settings are automatic detect on DHCP and it allows wifi broadcasting.

Then, for your laptop, just check it TCP/IP settings as said above on your usb setting. It should show up in Control Panel>Network Options. Or if it has it's own software, you can probably access it through there.
