How to set up password protection on network?

I have just purchased a laptop with wi-fi. I use DSL. I went out and purchased a Linksys Wirelss G. I am connected to internet, no problem. I then set up a network, to share files and printers from my desktop, no problem.

My question is, how can I set it up to require a password to access the network. All I did to connect my laptop to the internet, was cut it on. and all I did to join the network, was do the network wizzrd.

What is to keep someone nearby with a wi-fi from connecting to my network. I don't really care as much about the connecting to the internet (though it can slow down my connection), it's the network I am worrying about.

I tried to find a way to set up passwords, but I can't find it out. Any suggestions?

go into the routers settings, should tell you how in the instructions and set a WEP key, that should keep nosey people out
