how to do a complete computer wipe?

My home computer needs a good cleaning. I have not cleaned it up in about 3-4 years. I have old programs that I can delete but then would have to go through PC to clean up all the bits and pieces. I would like to keep my microsoft programs . I have photos but i guess I would have to remove them from the PC . Everything else I would like to get rid of and clean out the computer. I guess like a factory reset. How to do this? I am using windows 7 that I installed on a computer I put together with help from the site. Thanks for any help.

Remove the pictures from the computer. If all you want is your Microsoft programs, just insert the Microsoft disc you used to download Windows and boot from the disc. From there you want to format the hard drive(s) and reinstall Windows.
