most common is a can of compressed air, although they can cause damage if used to close, you can buy products for your screen and case but if always used a lightly damped cloth and had no probs, depending on the finish of your case if it is high gloss you can polish it to a nice shine

i dont really like the sound off compressed air as i use that on my rc cars and thats pretty powerfull, well im not to worried about my screen just the outer case and the inner case for all the components/ thanks all
 
a hairdryer will blow most of the large loose bits out bit not the ingrained small bits, thats why the air cans are better if used with care keep gap from the spray area and just press spray button lightly, also if you have small mini attachments a hoover is also handy, but a proper hoover not those wee dirt devil things no power
 
vacuum cleaners are the best. You don't ahve to worry about canned air damaging anything as long as you don't shake the can and you use it in short bursts. Though, they loose their pressure pretty quickly and it gets frustrating. If your vacuum has a blow feature thats the way to go.
 
I use canned air static free. Still expensive but have a bunch of computers to clean. I don't use full pressure. never needed it. Just a light blow off. Ive been looking for a computer vacuum cleaner then be done with it. About the only place im seeing this is at B&H.
 
When the dust, dirt and hairs are left for any period of time, hair dryers will not do the job. Fine if you do it regularly. I use Dustbuster for convenience but also compressed air. Both are fine if you use common sense and practice a few times first to get a short puff. Dustbuster comes with a plastic nozzle that can get right in there, bypassing things like the CPU fan. Poke between the fan blades to blow out the heat sink.

A lot of nonsense is talked about compressed air. People use it for fine art airbrushing so it's OK for your PC. You need to have a suitable responsive gun and if necessary, set the air receiver to say 40psi instead of 100psi. Oil-less is essential.

I use my vacuum to wave around inside the PC to pick up the blasted dirt. That can be quite harmful. It is a breeding ground for germs as well as a respiratory irritant.

To do a basic keyboard clean-out, turn upside down and shake. Totally gross. A blast of Dustbuster or compressed air while it is upside down will get the most of the rest. I run the corner of a piece of thin card dampened in isopropanol between the keys to pick up hair and stubborn crap.
 
No one else uses an industrial vacuum + industrial air compressor (with humidity filters and drop legs mind you)? I guess that makes my comp the cleanest in the west :P.

I agree and as mentioned i always use static free air. Just tired of buying these cans. I will find a mini vaccum but would also allow to be used as blower with some basic attachments. If it does not have the options i want it won't work for me. Strictly a vacuum i will not like.
 
Or, just go to your local computer shop and buy the leading brand of computer duster..it's not going to damage anything.

I clean my house once a week, so I don't have to worry about large dust build up. Cleaning and dusting your house at least once a month is a free and excellent way to keep the dust out of your computer, so you don't have to keep buying expensive cans of air, or vacuum the computer out every week. I have to clean my computer out once a year.

Might seem daft,But when i clean mine (Maybe every six months),I use a clean 1" Paint brush.

Remove the vid card,sound card,HDDs and brush them over and off comes the dust thats settled,With the heatsink i do the same...remove it,the brushes bristles go inside the heatsink nicely and get out all the crap then i freshly apply new thermal paste.

Also the paint brush works wonders for getting in the grills on the front of my Coolermaster 690 case & all inside...can even brush over the mobo.

The thing with compressed air,Its expensive...you dont get much and for some odd reason not alot of stores stock it anymore....well not where i live anyway.

Trust me try it,Paint brush FTW.
 
Dont know if you guys are talking about dust that accumulates on the inside or the outside of the case. Outside I would think a damp cloth would work. As far as the inside,new desktop, I am going with big fans and filters to help keep the dust from ever going in the unit. The big fans should help with the restriction of the filters.
 
I use an air compressor to get the majority of the dust. To clean the fan blades of I use a Q-tip.
 
I dont have a industrial vac, but I just use my compressor (humidity filter and just a plain filter) with the PSI drop gauge set to 10 PSI. never had a problem with it.
 
Again before im done. It has been posted here many times. Get it off the floor. Its only once a year for me. 30" off the ground. i have 5. Once a year in the fall i blow all. Get'er off the floor. I seen my brother's computer. It was a wreck.

10PSI? LOL I use 90PSI. Gets all the dust bunnies out :D
