not sure what you're asking, but the router normally would have a different IP for the Internet, assigned by your ISP. The router also assigns (if DHCP is enabled) local IP's to any PC behind the router . They are more like 192.168.x.x . They should not be the same as your Internet IP address.
My guess is you already have your DHCP enabled and you are already obtaining your IP automatically. Which means the above instructions may not be helpful.
Are you having problems?
If you want to determine your OS....click start, control panel, system
And yes I'm running winxp.
If she has her DHCP enabled the router is assigning her IP. Which is why I am checking to see if she has her IP assigned already. Which would cause an Ip conflict. So yes the above instructions do help. She does have win xp, as she stated above.
Exactly. She asked to change the one she had. No mention of a conflict. BTW - Just becasue she already has an IP assigned, does not mean there would be a conflict. A conflict normally occurs with multiple PC on a network and two have been assigned the same IP.
Dude, those instructions you were giving her to determine her OS were...well, interesting.
On your desktop right click my network places, and select properties. Right click your Local area connection, and select properties. In that window the is a section which says This connection uses the following items: In side that box there is an Internet protocol Tcp/Ip. Double click it. In the window that pops up select obtain an ip address automatically, and obtain DNS server address automatically. Select ok on all the windows. Does that fix it?
I did yes I have just e mailed you back. So read it and then get back to me. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!
