Evening people, just wondered if anyone out there can help me and let me know how can I change the IP address as the IP address that I have on at the moment is not the one that my router has. I would need step by step guadiance how to change that.:) Many thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you are saying your router is assigning you an IP address, and you computer is also, is that correct? If so try this. (winxp)

On your desktop right click my network places, and select properties. Right click your Local area connection, and select properties. In that window the is a section which says This connection uses the following items: In side that box there is an Internet protocol Tcp/Ip. Double click it. In the window that pops up select obtain an ip address automatically, and obtain DNS server address automatically. Select ok on all the windows. Does that fix it?

I'm stuck!!!!!!!!!! Help

Hello there, Thanks for you super fast resond, I have tried to follow all the steps that u gave me, but when I right click on "local area connection" I get a window which says "Local Area Connection Properties" and with in that I do not have what u told me to look for I have these option "General", "Autentication" and "Advance" and in none of them I can not see my IP address so I may change it. So am I doing something wrong or what should I do now!?
Many Thanks, Sally

Which operating system do you have? I put (winxp) above to mean it iw for Winxp...

Can you post a screen shot of the window?

to do that open the same window you had open, and hold ALT and press printscreen (2 keys above delete button).

Then right click desktop and click new, bmp or jpg image. Right click the new file and select edit. When MSpaint opens press Ctrl + V to paste. Then save the imsage as anything. Go to http://www.imageshack.us/ and upload the image, and post the link.

I'm going to sound like a total idiot now but I'm not able to do that what u asked me as after I click ALT and press print screen but when I right click on desktop it doesn't give me option of new bmp or jpg.
And yes I'm running winxp.
O actually I have just taken photo of screen as you have requested, could I e mail it to you!? I can't upload it through the web site.
Thanks.
Sally

not sure what you're asking, but the router normally would have a different IP for the Internet, assigned by your ISP. The router also assigns (if DHCP is enabled) local IP's to any PC behind the router . They are more like 192.168.x.x . They should not be the same as your Internet IP address.

My guess is you already have your DHCP enabled and you are already obtaining your IP automatically. Which means the above instructions may not be helpful.

Are you having problems?

If you want to determine your OS....click start, control panel, system

If she has her DHCP enabled the router is assigning her IP. Which is why I am checking to see if she has her IP assigned already. Which would cause an Ip conflict. So yes the above instructions do help. She does have win xp, as she stated above.

And yes I'm running winxp.

Ok I have finally found what u started telling me and I have clicked on all the selections "automatically" and then on all windows "ok" and I tried to connect through my network and I still can't do it! What can I do now!?

Hello Sally, would you please do your best to explain your problem in more detail? It would be better for us to help you :). As with the words that you currently chose to use to word your post, it could mean a varity of situations with your router, your computer and IP addresses.

Right I recently had to by new hard drive and now I can't seem to connect to my own network, I can pick up other networks but not my own. My other flatmates have no problem (like I didn't have before either) at all. So I know it's something with IP address but I just don't know how to correct it. I have tried to follow advice from above which was given to me and that didn't work it's still not connecting. So I really don't know what to do now?

Is your network wireless or wired? If wireless, do you have the wireless network card configured correctly? Installed? If wired, re-plug the cable back into your network card to make sure it's seated properly. Now, who has access to the network router administrator account on your network? And are you absolutely certain that you set your computer to receive an IP address from the router itself rather than your workstation using one that you specified?

Evening, sorry last night I couldn't get on to that internet connection any longer. I'm not quite sure what is wrong to tell you the truth. Basicaly resently I had upgraded to bigger, new driver so I had to install everything in to my computer. And now I seem to be having problems getting on to my own wireless connection and I can get on someone else (which my laptop is picking up) with no problem. So I really don't get what is wrong and why I can not connect. I have tried puting the routers Ethernet port on the back of my computer and then I can connect through my own connection but when I unplugg it I loose it. So I don't know if I have to reconfigure something or what is going on, but I would love to resolve the issue. So if you know what is going on and could give me step by step gudiance I would be really greatfull!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll be waiting with anticipation for your answer.
Many thanks,
Sally:confused:

Exactly. She asked to change the one she had. No mention of a conflict. BTW - Just becasue she already has an IP assigned, does not mean there would be a conflict. A conflict normally occurs with multiple PC on a network and two have been assigned the same IP.

Dude, those instructions you were giving her to determine her OS were...well, interesting.

I was trying to get a printscreen of here network configuration window.

In my previous post i discussed "the window"

Hello there, here let me reply to your message.
We have in house wireless connection (router) and there is three laptops sharing the connection.
I don't know really what the problem is and why. Do you think that it would be card problem coz I thought that at first as well but I'm not sure what is it coz I can not connect on my own network but I can actually connect to someone else (which I'm picking up). Very strange. So thats why I'm completly stuck and just don't know what the problem is and what to do.
I think that I have administrator access on router as I have set it originaly up at fist instance.
About IP address I have no idea could that be and issuee, but might you, when I try and click on repair the connection it does say that IP address is invalid and sometimes it shows nothing and sometimes it shows it all.
So I really don't know what, I just know that I'm stuck and I need help!!!!
SO any resolutions wellcome.
Many thanks
