I'm trying to search on how to do this, and I'm not having much luck. I need to 'burn' an ISO to a USB, and don't know what settings I have to change to allow it to do so.

The sites I was looking at just confused me more, so if anyone has info let me know.

Are you having trouble booting from the USB drive itself, or are you have problems in regard to getting the .ISO onto the USB so that it is bootable?

I'm having trouble getting the ISO onto the USB, to boot from it. I tried seeing if BurnCDCC would work, but it appeared I could only using the DVD drive.

I'm going to run out to the store and buy an IDE to USB cable and use my DVD drive for my netbook.

Thanks.

ive had no luck using those adapters to run external drives on laptops the bios doesnt recognize it as a bootable device.

theres some pretty simple guides on how to do this, just google the os and flash drive should come up with tons of links.

only reason im guessing os because if it was anything other you could just put the iso file on the flash drive and mount it.

Well the guides I'm reading mention them using a DVD drive on my netbook to boot, but also use a program before it that make the OS boot. Do you think I'll have a problem using the adapter and my drive with it? I'd buy an external DVD drive, if there's a difference, but this will probably be the only time I use it.

well ive never had any luck being able to boot a cd/dvd drive using them adapters, netbooks should support usb booting already so you shouldnt have to use a disc that enables booting from usb. you should beable to setup a bootable flashdrive with the os of your choice and boot straight from it check your bios to see if it supports usb booting as it should i believe most netbooks do

Imgburn should be able to help you, i haven't used it much but it does work with image files...

like Respital mentioned. Did you try to extra all the files from the ISO and copy paste it over to the USB? most if not all program should have a little installation thing that you can click on to initiate the install.

By any chance are you looking to install windows by using a usb instead of a dvd?

I had to do that tonight because my slim asus laptop does not have a dvd rom even though it did came with a copy of windows 7 64x.

If you are looking to install windows using USB than here is what I followed.

Just make sure to right click the CMD and run as administrator to avoid problem.

good luck

I can help you trough the steps if you need more help.

I've been searching, but can't find out how to burn an ISO to a USB using PowerISO. Are there any programs that will just do it automatically? Or is the CMD method not that tricky?

Thanks.

I don't think you can burn an iso image onto a USB drive and have it act the same way as if you burn the ISO onto a cd/dvd.

The CMD method allows the computer to detect the USB as a boot device similar to a CD/DVD rom.

So if you want the computer to boot from the USB drive from startup the only way I found that worked is the CMD method.

And you can just unpack all the files from the ISO image onto a USB/hard drive if you are looking to install when you are logged into the windows.
