Its 3 AM, i had statistics today, and my eyes burn. I couldnt find it in search, but if its there ( since it seems like it would have been asked by now ) please point me in the direction

If not

How often should i shut down ma baby? I have been reading that regular shut downs arent bad for you HHD anymore ( i have caviar green 1 TB ).

I keep my pc running 14hrs a day, 7 days a week. No problems. If your case is well ventilated you can keep it running as long as you wish, no over a month I would think. I had my running for 14 days, yes I didn't turn it off when I went for a holiday, came back and everything was allright ;)

I believe that a computer can stay on for months without needing a shutdown.

If servers can do it then i cannot see any reason why a well ventilated PC cannot.

I tend to shut my PC down every 12 - 15 days. I would advise a defragment and disk cleanup at least every 2 weeks.

My rig has been running 24/7 for about 2 years. I very rarely shut it down.

Like the other guy said, if it is well ventilated there is no reason why you couldn't leave it on.

It's also a personal opinion, if you don't want to waste power over night (assuming that you're not downloading anything), then it would cut down your costs just a tad.

But it's good to restart your computer, say every 2-3 weeks, because of Windows Update, and also installing programs (When programs need the computer to be restarted and what not). I just put mine to sleep and restart it every other week and it seems fine.

I can't sleep with the sounds of the fans and the bright lights of my case (see college dorm pics), so I shut it down at night. It's usually on though from 8am to about 1am.

Mine is shut down whenever i am not on it, with the exception of if i am downloading, if it is defragging, running virus scan, installing something etc. Once that is done though, off it goes, can't afford to leave it on from an electricity point of view or from a hardware point of view, need my processor, memory and HDD to last as long as possible for teh next couple of years until i leave college and can get a real job where i can afford to plow quite a bit of money into my system

I turn mine off why I am sleeping. Before I go to work I turn it on and check my E-Mail, computer fourm, myspace, etc. Then I turn it off before I leave for work and turn it back on when I get home.

My other PC pretty much runs 24/7. I cut it off once a week for a few hours just so it can update and stuff.

Because I'm the one paying the Electricity Bill, it gets shut down of a night and restarted after work the next day.

I put my pc to sleep when I'm not using it, and I shut it down if I'm not going to be using it for a longer period of time.

Computers have moving parts, like fans and hard drives.

Those components will not spin forever...
