Yes, you'd be surprised how much juice a quality (not sure if the one in the HP is quality though...) 250watt powersupply can pump out.

And I'd say like ~$200 bucks, maybe a tad bit more?

I'd also say around the 200$ mark, maybe 250$ if you're lucky.

my friend powers a 8800Gt from a stock 350 watt hp power supply. And its been working great for over 2 years now.

I have never used the 8600gt with the stock psu (250watt). I am sure it would be fine though.
