How much Should I sell for?

Hey all,

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but I didn't want to put it in the For Sale forum as it isn't for sale yet. I'm looking to build my friend a PC but rather than build one from scratch I was thinking about selling him the innards of my PC and then with the money he pays me buy a new CPU, motherboard, RAM and graphics card. I'd sell my i5 760, my P7P55D-E board, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, and an EVGA GTS 450 graphics card. How much should I be looking to sell everything for as one big 'bundle'? Nothing has been overclocked and everything is in good condition. I'd like to be able to buy an i5 2500K, a Gigabyte Z68 board, 8GB Ripjaws DDR3 RAM and a GTX 560 or a 560 Ti graphics card, so ideally I need around £400-500 for the lot. Is this being a bit too optimistic do you think? I added up the original cost of each item and the price came to around £418.

Thanks

The CPU still retails for £165, the motherboard still retails for £113, the RAM retails for about £35 and the graphics card £90, add them all up and you get £403 - is this too high? £250-300 for the lot seems a bit low considering if you went and bought that CPU and motherboard today it would cost you £280, and that's not including the graphics card or the RAM.

I'm tempted to just not sell my graphics card and then sell the CPU, mobo and RAM for about £290-300 and then get my friend a cheap graphics card like a GT 520 for £30 as he likely won't be needing a graphics card for gaming, he'll only need one so he can see what's on the screen (i5 760 and P7P55D-E board do not support integrated graphics). I could buy an i5 2500K, a Z68 board and 8GB of RAM for about £290 so that deal should be fairer for both of us I guess.

Just selling the CPU, mobo and RAM and possibly graphics card like I said, not the whole system and certainly not including Windows with it.

Well i would say easiest way to work a fair price, is check what you components are selling for now and then half, don`t think anyone would pay more than half the new retail price.

Just over a week ago you were telling me I could sell my 760 for £100 because it was still retailing for £125, now you're saying I should halve the price? I want to get a decent price for my bundle, and I think £295 should be OK. I need to see what my mate comes back with, he hasn't exactly told me what he wants to use this PC for, he said something about a "Minecraft server"??

xD minecraft server! my opinion thats a waist of a good PC thats a really snazzy pc build all for that jeez i hope it gets used well!

Yeah it all depends how quick you want it sold, the better the deal the quicker the sale.

if you have a friend to buy it, that should make it easier to get top price for it as they are not going to try and haggle you down.

It might be that he doesn't buy it when he sees the price for the complete build with my bundle and a case, a PSU, a 500GB hard drive and copy of Windows 7 Premium is nearing £570, that may turn him off and he may not make the purchase. Even still, sometime this year I will make the upgrade to either a 2500K or a 3570K once they become available, and I'll just sell what I've currently got on eBay.

Good point, I reckon he may buy it, £570 for a complete system with a quad-core CPU, 8GBs of RAM and a great motherboard is pretty good deal. I'd do the CPU, board and RAM for £295, sound ok to you guys?

I will ask him what his budget is and then increase the price to fit. The more money I get for it the better. ;)

My friend didn't buy from me in the end because a member of his family gave him a "Minecraft server" to use, so I've still got everything. When Ivy-Bridge comes out soon I'll start thinking about selling my stuff. I have a question though, should I sell everything as a bundle or sell everything separately? I was thinking separately because then I'd get more money? If I were selling as a bundle I'd bundle the CPU, board and RAM but not the graphics card, I'd sell that separately.

So I'm thinking
Start bid at £100 for the CPU + Cooler
Start bid at £80 for the motherboard (boxed with all manuals and most accessories)
Start bid at £20 for 8GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM (4x2GB)
Start bid at £40 for the graphics card

Would I be best off selling the RAM as an 8GB kit or just 4 separate 2GB DIMMs starting the bid at £5 for each of them?

Hopefully with the money I make I can upgrade to a 3570K when it comes and get a new board and RAM and hopefully upgrade to a Radeon 7850 or a 7870 when it comes.
