how much faster

Ok so this is what I will be replacing HP 544N (Celeron 2.0, 512MB RAM and 40Gig HD) with the following:

Foxconn A74MX-K

AMD Athlon X2 BE-2300 Brisbane 1.9GHz

2Gigs of PC2-5300

120Gig WD HD

Running XP


So how much faster is the new unit going to be in comparison to the old? Now mind you this unit is going to be used for internet surfing, online poker, ebay, pictures, music and downloading and very few games. What are your thoughts? Oh and this entire build is going to cost me $86 lol.

don't see no issue with that system. if ya have minimum of dsl or cable high speed your good to go.
if your using dial up ..........thats scary, that will be the problem.

System will be much faster then a 2.0ghz Celly. Will be plenty for what you like to do. Your looking at twice the speed...a 2.0ghz Cel vs a X2 even at stock speeds with 1 core the 1.9ghz would be better.


Just make sure to tweak XP to increase your performance even further.

I know I was looking at that, but honestly I cant see 2 60yr old parents really using it, so I would rather get off as cheap as possible.

ooo lol, its for your parents, then ya, i would go as cheap as possible, my parents still run a 3000+ and its like 5 years old?I always offer to build them a new one, but there refuse saying that this computer is fast enough, so yah, in that case go with that cpu.

My grandma got a ok computer xD 160 GB HDD 256 MB of ram 64 MB video card and 1.6 GHz Processor^^ she got it in 2000 and it costed her like $1000
