you know your amp lets say it gives a power output of 2x100, so it gives an output of 100 watts per channel, and your speakers can handle 100 watt max each so thats alrite but what about the sub you buy do you get a sub thats 100w or a sub thats 200w because if you combine both the speakers together you get a power rating of 200w ???!!!
 
That makes very little sense.

Since most subwoofers are active (have amps built in), what does it matter?

I went through all this with my car sound system, and I've forgotten it all now.

There's the whole RMS/peak/can you bridge the 2 channels.... nonsense to be worked out, and it's incrediably dull
