I use a laptop and would appreciate a detailed explanation if possible. From what I understand in sleep mode every component in the unit shuts-down except for RAM? correct?

Minimal power is supplied to the RAM which stores memory, so that upon start-up it only takes a few sec. to return to what you're doing.

Is it only the RAM which is receiving power and running, or are other components consuming power and working as well.
(Is sleep mode, as good as shut down), how much is the unit resting?
