How does "Mozilla" make money??

I'm a HUGE FireFox fanboy (get out Chrome).
It occurred to me, a project as big, with no big corporation like Microsoft or Google backing it up, must have difficulties making money.
I understand it is open source and experts all over the globe contribute to its development, without expecting monetary rewards, but nevertheless, it's too big to keep functioning without a lot of money coming into the system.
SO where do they make this money from?
I've heard Google pays them every time i search using the search bar in Firefox, but why'd they do that? I'm not clicking on any of their advertisements so I'm not helping Google make any money. It should (logically) be the other way round -- I should be paying Google for letting me use their services. Allowing me to use their service for free, and then paying Mozilla to fund its projects, is just logic-defying isn't it?

You may not click on the ads, in fact most people don't but a certain percentage of people that view them will click on the ads, and that's all Google cares about and why they pay Mozilla for giving them traffic.

So then, does google pay mozilla every time i use the mozilla search box?
Or do they pay mozilla only if i click on an advertisement??

Also if the ad is there google gets money for it. less than a click but still something.
