How do we shutdown computer

what? An AOL computer? AOL does not make them, is it a Dell, Gateway, etc? Is this problem for every time you try to turn it off, or only this one ocasion?
Anyway, have you tried tapping the power button on the case? That may work. (Don't hold it down)
 
first off aol does too make computers but its not highly publiczed because of their hudge decline of customers lately. i would try opening up the case to see if the button is working, once i pressed my power button in too hard and bam! had to get a new one so i would try that, also look for dust or something some times thats the culprit.
 
Problems with Gateway computer

There is a problem when he tries to shut it down it freezes the window freezes and does nothing. I have to shutdown with the button on computer
any idea what might cause this

I've had this happen when some programs refuse to shut down automatically, notably Zone Alarm. Try shutting down any programs you are using (incl. firewall, antivirus, etc...), before shutting down the actual computer.
