I have a laptop computer with a cd-rom, on xp, that I want to connect to another laptop computer that is running windows 2000, but has no working cd drive. How can I let both computers utilise the drive???

I also want to use the optical drives at work across the network. Any way to do that?

right click onthe drive and press sharing?
you may need to map the drive from you laptop on the machine that doesnt have a cd drive

I did this on my sisters laptop not to long ago, simply right click the CD-ROM drive go to sharing and click "share this drive on the network". Then simply go to the laptop and open my computer, click tools, then, "map network drive". Browse through the netowrk config to find the shared CD-ROM drive and click NEXT then FINISH.
