My computer is not currently broke. But I was wondering if someone could tell me how to fix it, so when it does break I do not have to take it to the shop and pay to fix it. Its an ASUS. I think its running windows 7 home edition but I am not sure about that.

Ya can. What if its hard ware related. Loose connection or failure on the motherboard.
Say for example you reload the operating system and have the same problem.
Will not start.

What's up with your PC exactly? Is it not starting at all, or starting but something is preventing it from booting into Windows, is Windows not working correctly, is it generally slow? A bit more information is needed before we can lend you a hand...

He said it isn't broken now. He wants to know what to do in future if it does.

It depends on what happens to it, it's hard to say what exactly to do until more information on a specific problem is given. I recommend you keep your manuals, packaging, and warranty information intact just in case of any emergencies. Do you feel it's on it's way out? You're not going to take a sledgehammer or a handgun to it are you?

I do not think there is. At least nothing that I have discovered except plugging it in (i am that stupid sometimes).

What it takes to fix a computer is different for just about every problem.

As said, every issue has a different fix. There is no single fix for all issues type of thing.

Probably the most common issue is that the system is running slower than normal. In that case, it could be malware is on your system and you need to get it removed. First step would be to run Malwarebytes on your system to make sure its not infected.

You would want to run Ccleaner at least once a week to keep system performance up.

There is no universal fix to all problems lol.
Every problem is different and requires a different way of fixing it.
Once you learn a LOT about hardware, software and programming then you will understand the computer logic and almost every problem will be a peace of cake for you.
Until then just study, study and study ;)

Cheers!

My main advice to you (which should cover the majority of cases), would be to simply learn how to reformat and reinstall Windows. Beyond that, it would be more of knowing how to handle specific problems, both software and hardware related. For the software side of things, knowing how to keep your computer malware/virus free, defrag your HDD, keep your HDD and OS clean and tidy, etc. are huge.

The majority of computer systems never run into hardware issues. If you're somebody that knows how to maintain a system (examples above) and reinstall Windows, that will cover you 99.9% of the time. As an added bonus, if you knew how to install memory and video cards, that would cover the majority of times people need to touch their hardware. Building a computer is ridiculously easy and easy to learn, but if everyone did the above things there would be very small demand for computer "repair."

I agree with you. Your explanation was perfect for basics.
From there. I read problems they have if i did and would
query, search or ask after following instructions above.
