Hey guys. My dad installed a wireless router for his laptop a couple weeks ago, and its not encrypted and I am trying to figure out how to encrypt it. Mainly because just recently our computers started acting funny like a remote desktop connection showed up in my brothers hi'jack this log, and I now have a winlogin/exe virus that I have to try to solve and I dont know that this is because of the network but i figure might as well eliminate that possibility. I have no idea how to encrypt it, and have tried to do a little bit of reading up on it, but it seems like there is a whole bunch to learn and I am hoping to get this done tonight, so if anyone can give me some useful information on how to encrypt the wi-fi network I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Jeff

Access the router with a PC on the network and you should be able to config the security there.

If you dont know how to do this open command prompt and type "ipconfig" and hit enter. Then type the Default gateway into Internet Explorer and you should get the router config there.

you have to enable WEP, WPA, or WPA2 in your wireless security settings via your router control panel. Open up your web browser and telnet into the routers CP, you can look up the IP as mentioned in the previous post.
