how can I recover photos after system restore?

I know my chances are slim but thaught Id ask anyways. My laptop got a virus that locked up the computer very quickly. I restored the computer to factory settings and naturally all my photos are gone. My question is if information is NEVER ereased from the hard drive , shouldnt I be able to retrieve the photos. I am using windows xp.
 
It all depends if the location on the harddrive where the pictures were stored was overwritten by new data. You can try downloading and running recuva to see if it will find anything, run the deep scan though.

Thanks John I will do that since I have seen it pop up a few times on searches. The other dilema is I have to see if this works downloading it to a flash drive and tranfering it to the laptop. I dont have a wireless connection there either.:eek:
 
Yes, it will work downloading to a flash drive and then installing it from there.

Also, next time, come here for help. I most likely could have saved you from doing the factory restore and losing your pictures.
 
John is right.You didn't have to do that since there was probably a way to delete that virus without losing the data...

Oh John by the way...you ever watched cartoon called Johnny Bravo =D ? Your name just reminded me on that lol.
