hallo,

I have installed a network-card but when i want to contact my provider
the ip-adress stays at 169.254....
the utp-cable is stread connected to my modem
I try'd winipcfg but it dont work (pc get locked)
also dos-prompt didn't work white ipconfig release/renew

How can I lose the 169.254....

O,.... the utp-cable is fine
and the network-card gives no problems

I heard that I have to change something in the registry
to give the IP-adress ...free

my system is win98

If I use my laptop it works fine (winXP) :)
My IP is than something like: 84.38......

So it is a win98 problem.how to get rid of this windows IP ....169.254...

thanks anyway,

johan

you may want to reinstall TCP/IP, if that doesn't work, sounds like a connection problem, may need to replace your network card.

I can try reinstall tcp/ip.......you hear from me if it works ;)

i have heard of that happeneing a lot with xp/2k, but not with 98.

in xp/2k it is caused most times by registry keys gettin messed up. only way to undo it is to reset the winsock, and sometimes all the keys need to be replaced with a app like winsockfix.exe or winsockxpfix.exe.

try googleing for how to reset the winsock in 98. been awhile since i used 98
