I have an rdinary adsl connection. i have 3 comp 2 stationary and one laptop. my wissh is to have a wireless network in my house, but i dont want the other computers to be on so i can use my laptop internet, i want to simmply open my laptop and surf without having to have one of the other stationarys on. Is that possible? i heard that if i buy a wireless router i can have like a dialup adsl connection in the router and have it dialed all the time, so the connection is actually in the router, is that correct?

Yes you are correct. All you need is a wirless router. You may want to think of a hybrid one.. both wireless and ethernet cord. Good luck.. Come back if you need any help.

router

i recommend getting a Linksys Wireless Router, and prefferably an 802.11g with speedbooster for a little extra kick. hopefully you have a pretty good background in setting up networks though or you may have trouble. have fun!

Not on such a small application such as this. And it's even easier if all computers are XP.
Now some of the other networks in which I am the administrator are a HUGE headache at time (30+ computers)

there's a new linksys router out now that has more range and speed than an 802.11g w/ speedbooster, you may want to check on that....how many different computers do you want connected to the internet?

ok, another q

my internet connection is a connection that i allways need to dial, like an ordinary modem dialup connection. so if i can do that with a router that means that i can use a router on an ordinary modem dialup connection to, and just have it diald all the time in the router?

thank you

another thing

and something very important, only the router can be sswitched on, not any other computer only the laptop, and it will work?

and can i connect the other two computers to the router by cable, its very important that they wil have a very stable connection, and i dont want to buy wireless card for them... so only the laptop will work through wireless connection?

how is it possible to configure a connection inside the router?

thank you!

oh, you have dialup connection as in like a 56k, right?

and i know you configure settings for a linksys router by opening up a web browser and putting in your default gateway address in the URL....this will lead you to a configuration page for just about anything you want to do.
