How can I access my website through my external IP

How can I access my website through my external IP address?

I just installed an Apache web sever on my computer, I created a web site and can access it through out my LAN (my laptop and my PC when the server is on my desktop), by entering the computers network name or by IP address.

However when I try to access my site through my external IP address I get nothing! can someone please tell me what I have to do to make it work?

I am running Windows XP Professional

I believe I have fixed my problem, I a long time ago I installed IIS (Internet Information Services), it was acting as a web server and over riding Apache,
I uninstalled it but hadn't done a re-boot yet I just re-booted and it works fine!
