Hey Iam not good with Computers, So i will ask some people who are, I have to computer in my apt, and I have cable Internet, Right now i only have one hook up for going on line how do i hook them up to go online at the same time?

oh you have 2 lan cards in both computers right?

now, there are 2 ways to do it that i know of..
direct cable, and using a router...
direct cable is simple, where you get 2 lan cards on 1 computer and 1 on the other...
hook up a internet through the lan on #1 computer, and using a direct cable connect from one computer lan to the other.
thats one way of using internets on 2 computers
the problem is that the #1 computer has to be on all the time...

the way using a router is more costly but better way.
router cost from $20~$140.
you only need 1 lan card on each computer
conect from both computers to the router and internet modem to the router.
then the whole network system is made.
using the router as a server you can use inteenet from both computers.

oh ya, there is wireless router network also, same concept as the one above.
good luck.. i recommand wireless router.

The easiest way to do this is with a Router, then you can connect both your computers to it. The question is, do you want them to be connected via a cord (wired), or wireless?

Basically, what you would do is buy a wired/wireless router, hook your cable modem to it, connect both your computers to it via a wire or wireless, then you can share files, printers, internet, ect.

well if you go wireless, like me, i am buying a wireless cards for 3 of my computer for $50 each... and the gaming router will cost me $150...
so.. i will have to spend like $300 by changing my shitty conections to a better one.

So There is nothing like a splitter where I can just plug it into my cable modem and then plug one LAN cord in from one computer, and the same for the other, like back when we were all on "The Flinstone's" Connection Dial up" where you would put a splitter in the phone jack so u could go online and run a phone cord right up to your computer....lol those were the days

Dont need two in each machine; your options are:
- Wireless accesspont/router + wireless NICs
- Router + two NIC
- Switch/Hub/Router + two NIC
- Three NIC

Yes there is, its called a switch/hub

the switch hub will not work, you only get ONE ip address from your isp and both your PCs will fight over that ip. You could use ICS , ICS implements a form of DHCP to lease ip addresses, i think you would need to get another nic in the host pc or the hub scenario. Using the hub or switch with ICS is still not recommended, here is why. Routers are cheap, you can probably find a non gaming router for about $30 -40 , probabbly about the same for a switch or hub. Most modern routers have wireless also ( which can be turned off if not used) and they have NAT, which sort of takes the one ip Wan ip address mentioned above and associates it to all your LAN pc's. Then most routers also have SPI , this is pure security, checks all your packets that come in to make sure they were requested... that they are not spoofed or forged.
routers are also a lot easier to implement... i have used ICS once or twice in the last 8 years for customers.

Nope..its called a router (hub/Switch will not work as Viking pointed out). And yes, it is pretty much as easy as plugging everything in and away you go. This is by far the least complicated of your options.
