i want to setup a home web server so ppl can d/l things from me particularly tv shows that i make. the file size would be about 50-200mb. i did this speed test with http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and this is what it said

Download Speed: 7611 kbps (951.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 298 kbps (37.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

d/l is not bad but my upload speed is like dial up!! wtf?!!? what should i do about this? is the test bad or does it really suck that much? should i call comcast and ask them to make it faster? i need like 300KB/sec. are there free host that handle large files? i dont want to break up the file into a bunch of zips. Arg.

The upload speed is no error, my internet is about 600/kbs and 52 kb/s upload. Uploads speeds are almost always around the 30 -100 mark for home internet users. I dont know of any hosting services that can handel such large files. I do have a website hosting company that has 20gb of space. I could maby let you ftp to my server and uplaod the files so other people can access them.

I have dialup and believe me dialup is not that fast, I say count your lucky stars that you have internet thats that fast. I have a friend that uses dsl for his webserver and it works not that horriable. one thing I would check is if comcast blocks port 80 if it does try and go with that triple plays dude

Or you can go for the secure server (which uses port 443)

Which means the URL would look like this

https://www instead of http://www

I had to use that to go around my routers use of port 80 for web login.

Typical cable/dsl connections have low upload speeds, since the common user downloads files from the internet rather than uploads them.
