 Is there a way to hook up Home surround sound speakers to your PC. My son told me they make a adapter to do this. I have not found such a device or know what it is called to search for it.

You'd need some sort of amplification.

The best way to do it would be with an optical or coaxial digital cable. (SPDIF)

Note that for all intents and purposes this will only be stereo, except for things encoded in AC3 surround like DTS and DOLBY DIGITAL. But it's the best way as far as sound quality, and distortion.

On the back of my computer there are some jacks for a one says c/sub one says rear and one says side but i also have a jack that says digital audio
would this be where i feed the signal to the amp so i could play my music or dvds in surround sound. thanks for your reply

Thanks now i'll have to tell the wife i need one more toy to finish what i started. She shouldn't get to made cause the deal i got on these Audio Pro speakers, a 600.00 set for only 50.00 so and amp shouldn't be a problem. Do you recommend any brands.maybe some i need to stay away from.

Honestly, within any given price-range, the quality is about the same between brands.

The general trend is

Yamaha = "Brighter" treble-centric sound. Really ideal for LOUD music.
Onkyo = Generally has a "Warmer" sound, a little less bright, better for movies.
Pioneer = Neutral, is really my favorite, because it's really tweakable either way.

I'd say Yamaha if you're mostly going to be listening to music, or using headphones a lot (their headphone amplifiers are 2nd to none!)
And pioneer for anything else (movies, games, or a combination of everything)

Onkyos are decent, and the cheapest of the bunch, but cannot get bright for the life of them. They've just got a muddier sound to them. Awesome for action movies, or jazz, but lack the "POWER" of a nice crisp high-end.
